Announcing Emphasized 1.0 — The Simplest Way to Highlight the Web

Introduction

Finally, I am proud to announce that Emphasized - a Safari web extension for highlighting - is here!

Let's take a quick look at what's inside the box.

First of all, I'd like to point out that you can use it for various purposes: whether your're cramming for a test, digging into research, or just collecting great quotes.

With Emphasized, you can highlight text on webpages (obviously!). Every highlight is saved automatically on your device and neatly grouped by page, so you can always pick up right where you left off.

Highlighting Made Easy

Highlighting text online shouldn't be complicated. With Emphasized, you can:

• Highlight text on any webpage with a quick tap or click
• Use multiple colors to organize your thoughts, quotes, or study notes
• Change the color of an existing highlight easily by selecting a new color and tapping or clicking it
• Delete highlights you no longer need
• Combine multiple highlights into one, or split a large one.

It's fast, smooth, and stays out of your way — exactly how a highlighter should be.

Selection Modes

Not every highlight is the same, so you can choose how precise you want to be:

Characters Mode - Select exactly what you want, even down to single letters.

Words Mode - Automatically grab full words, even if you start mid-word.

None Mode - Pause highlighting when you just want to browse, while keeping all your existing highlights visible.

Everything Saved Automatically

No accounts. No syncing headaches. No losing your highlights.

• All highlights are saved locally on your device.
• They are automatically restored when you revisit the same page.
• Your data stays private and offline — completely yours.

So, whether you're studying, researching, or just browsing, you'll always find your highlights right where you left them.

A Neat, Organized View

Safari web extensions have an accompanying app. That's where you can find all your highlights.

• Highlights are grouped by webpage, so you can easily find what you've saved.
• Quickly review all your highlights in one clean interface.

You can open the app by launching it directly, or from Safari via the Emphasized toolbar.

Export to PDF

When you're ready to share your notes or keep a permanent copy, export your highlights into a clean, well-formatted PDF. Perfect for study sessions, research summaries, or just keeping your favorite quotes organized.

As I mentioned before, you can manually open the app or directly in Safari from Emphasized toolbar. Then just tap or click the Share button and save it as PDF.

Other Handy Features

A few more thoughtful touches to make your highlighting experience smoother:

• Reposition the toolbar to the top or bottom of the screen while you work.
• Triple-click to instantly select an entire paragraph.
  Note: this only works on Macs and on iPads when physical keyboard is connected.

The future of Emphasized

This is just the beginning. I have more plans for the app — think syncing, tags, and smarter export options.
