Emphasized 1.4 Update - Settings, Shortcuts, and a Smoother Experience
November 5, 2025 | 1-2 min
This update focuses on giving you more ways to customize and control how you highlight — plus some thoughtful touches to make everything flow better.
What's New
A new Settings page has added so you can manage all your preferences in one place. There, you can find helpful information about the extension, send feedback, or rate Emphasized on the App Store.
You can open the Settings in two ways:
- Via the popup: Open the extension popup and click the cog icon.
- Via Safari settings: Go to Safari -> Settings -> Extensions -> Emphasized, then click the Settings button.
New Setting - Control Highlight Visibility
Prefer a cleaner view when highlighting is turned off? You can now choose whether highlights remain visible or disappear temporarily — whatever rock your boat!
Keyboard Shortcuts
Highlight faster with your keyboard!
You can now use shortcuts to:
- Toggle highlighting on or off
- Change highlight colors
- Activate the eraser
- Undo highlights
- ...and more.
These shortcuts make Emphasized especially efficient on Mac and iPad with a physical keyboard.
By the way, you can also connect a keyboard to your iPhone and make use the same shortcuts.
Colored Cursor on Macs
Mac users will now see a colored cursor that matches the currently selected color — so you'll always know which color will be used without glancing at the toolbar.
Simplified Highlights View
Based on your feedback, I learned that the Archived section was confusing — so it's now gone!
All your highlights are now accessible in one place, making it easier to find, review, and manage them.
Bugs Squashed
Fixed an issue where highlights were getting cut off when exporting multi-page PDFs.
Also fixed fixed a few smaller bugs to make everything run more smoothly.
That's it for this update!
